When my clients approach the age of 62 — which is the earliest age they can receive Social Security benefits — they often ask me the same question: “Should I start to take my benefits now?” And my answer is always the same, “It depends.”

Retired people who get Social Security checks by mail but don't have bank accounts have a new option for receiving their benefits. The federal government will deposit monthly checks into a debit card account; the card can be used to make purchases or withdraw money.

U.S. presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain have been campaigning in some of the states where the November election is likely to be decided. Both took time Saturday to address a meeting of an influential organization that represents senior citizens.

The Depression-era Social Security program is about to offer the latest twist on using plastic as money.

CANTON The Stark County Department of Job and Family Services, Mayfield Senior Center and the Senior Forum newspaper will hold the 2008 Senior Citizens Forum from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mayfield Senior Center, at 3825 13th St. SW.

Up to a thousand people in Altoona didn't get their social security checks in the mail this month. The Social Security Office says the problem is at the post office, and there's nothing they can do about it at this time.

GRAND JUNCTION (KJCT)- Now there is an alternative to paper social security checks for you or your loved one. About 10.3 million seniors and people with disabilities still rely on paper checks for their social security and SSI payments.

Nearly 40,000 Utahns can save the Social Security system a quick $400,000 a year and save themselves some money in the process.
